Google Business Profile checklist for Ahmedabad businesses (2026)

Quick answer

Most of getting into the Google Maps results in Ahmedabad is boring upkeep: the right main category, the same name, address and phone on every listing, real photos, a steady trickle of detailed reviews and a website that answers the usual questions. Since the Q&A box on profiles disappeared in 2025, Google's AI mostly answers questions about you from your reviews and your own site.

Type "AC repair near me" on your phone somewhere in Satellite and three businesses pop up on a little map before you see a single website. For most local shops in this city, that box is where the phone calls come from. Owners ask us about it all the time, sometimes after someone has quoted them a big monthly fee for "Google Maps ranking" and they want a second opinion.

Here's the thing. You can't pay Google for that spot, and there's no trick to it. What there is, is a pile of small fixes that most businesses never get round to. Below is the list we go through for clients in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, roughly in the order I'd tackle it.

1. Is your business name exactly your real name?

Your listing name should match your signboard and your GST certificate, full stop.

You've seen the other kind, I'm sure: "ABC Dental Clinic Best Dentist in Bodakdev Satellite". Annoyingly, it can work for a few weeks, so people keep trying it. Then a rival clinic down the road reports it, Google chops the name or suspends the listing altogether, and the owner is back to square one. Your keywords can go in the description and on your site. Just not in the name.

2. Have you picked the right primary category?

If I could change only one thing on a profile, it would usually be this. The more specific the category, the better, so a dental practice should be "Dentist" rather than "Medical clinic", and an interiors studio "Interior designer" rather than plain "Designer".

Add secondary categories only for work you really do. When I'm unsure what a client should pick, I search their main keyword, open the three listings Google shows and look at what those businesses chose (the categories are right there under the name). Copying the winners' homework is allowed here.

3. Do your name, address and phone match everywhere?

Google compares your profile with Justdial, IndiaMART, Sulekha, Facebook, your website and whatever directories you've ever signed up for, and so do the AI tools now. Same name, same address written the same way, same phone number. That's the whole rule.

It sounds easy until you remember how people write addresses here. Satellite, or Satellite Road? Jodhpur Cross Road? Near which char rasta? Pick one version and use it everywhere. The worst offender is usually an old mobile number, still sitting on a couple of directories years after you stopped using it. The calls just never arrive, so nobody notices.

4. Are your hours right, including festival days?

Nothing gets you a one-star review faster than a customer driving across town at 8 PM and finding your shutter down.

So before Diwali, Uttarayan and Navratri, and before any day you're closed for a family wedding, go in and set special hours. It takes two minutes and saves you the angry review.

5. Have you added services, products and a proper description?

Plenty of profiles list three services when the business offers fifteen. Add every one, with a short line each, and add products with a photo and price if you sell things. The description field allows 750 characters, and I'd use around 600 of them to say what you do, for whom and where, the way you'd explain it to a customer on the phone.

Throw in two or three areas, said the way people here say them (Prahlad Nagar, SG Highway, Maninagar), and leave it at that. A list of fifteen neighbourhoods reads like spam, to people and to Google.

6. Are your photos real and recent?

Upload real photos of your shopfront (so people can find it from the road), the inside, your team and your work. Add a few new ones every month. Stock photos don't help anyone.

A short video works too. Thirty seconds walking from the main road to your door will save you a lot of "where exactly are you?" calls.

7. Are you getting new reviews every week?

Of everything on this list, reviews are where you have the most control, and newer, longer ones count for more than a pile of old "good service" lines from 2019.

What works is boring: the review link saved as a WhatsApp quick reply and printed on the bill, and a polite ask right after a job has gone well, while the customer is still pleased. Reply to every review within a day or two, including the unfair ones, and reply in whatever language they wrote in. A calm reply to an angry review can be the very thing that makes a stranger pick up the phone.

And please, no bought reviews and no "10% off for a review" deals. Google clears fakes out in big sweeps, and real reviews have a habit of going missing in the same sweep.

8. What changed with Questions and Answers?

The Q&A section on Business Profiles went away in late 2025 (Whitespark documented it as it happened). What's appeared in some places instead is an "ask a question" feature in the Maps app, where Google's AI writes the answer from your profile, your reviews and whatever else it can find.

That means the answers have to live somewhere the AI can read. A proper FAQ on your website helps a lot here: fees, parking, timings, which languages you speak, whether you do home visits. While you're at it, fill in your profile attributes. If happy customers mention specifics in their reviews, even better, because those details are what the AI likes to quote.

9. Do you post updates?

Honestly, posts won't shift your ranking much by themselves. They do make the profile look looked-after, though, and customers notice. One a week is plenty, whether it's an offer, a job you just finished, a new service or a festival greeting with real photos of your team.

10. Are you ready for Gujarati and Guglish searches?

A lot of local searching here isn't in neat English. People type "AC repair satellite ma", "best dabeli near me" or speak in Gujarati to Google. Your reviews, service names and website should use the words your customers use. Do most of your customers speak Gujarati? Then translating your main pages will do more for you than yet another English blog post.

11. Is your website backing up your profile?

Google checks your profile against the website it links to, so the contact page needs the same address, the same number, a map and your opening hours. It also helps to have a page that talks about your area and what you do there. We did exactly that for our own office, and you can see it on our Ahmedabad page.

What should you do if a competitor is spamming the map?

Fake listings, keyword-stuffed names and addresses that are really someone's flat are common in some categories. Use "Suggest an edit" on the listing to fix a name, and Google's business redressal complaint form for anything serious. Be patient. It works more often than people think, but it's rarely quick.

How long does it take to rank in Google Maps?

If your profile is new or was a mess, you'll often see movement in 4 to 8 weeks after the fixes go in. Ranking in the top three for a competitive search, like "dentist in Satellite", takes months of steady reviews and good photos. Distance matters too: you'll always rank more easily near your own address.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rank my business on Google Maps in Ahmedabad?+

Choose the most accurate primary category, use your real business name, keep your name, address and phone the same on every listing, add real photos and collect detailed reviews every week. Your website should match your profile and answer common customer questions.

Is Google Business Profile free?+

Yes. Creating and managing a Google Business Profile is free. You pay only if you choose to run ads or hire someone to manage it.

Can I put keywords in my business name on Google?+

No. Google's guidelines say the name must match your real-world name. Adding keywords can get your profile edited or suspended, especially if a competitor reports it.

Why did the Questions and Answers section disappear from my profile?+

Google removed Q&A from Business Profiles in late 2025. In some places, the Maps app now uses AI to answer questions from your profile information and reviews, so keep those detailed and accurate, and answer common questions on your website.

How many reviews do I need to rank in the top three?+

There's no fixed number. Look at the top three businesses for your main search and aim to steadily match their count and freshness. A few new detailed reviews every week usually beats a big burst followed by silence.

Should I reply to Google reviews in Gujarati?+

Reply in the language the customer used. If they wrote in Gujarati, reply in Gujarati. It reads as genuine, and those words can help you show up for Gujarati searches.
