Want to hire WordPress developers or Shopify developers in India? We're Digital Web Mania, an Ahmedabad team working with clients since 2017. You can book a fixed-price project from our USD packages ($2,500 for a website, $3,500 for a store) or monthly developer time quoted to your scope. A lead checks every change, and the code is yours.

Many people who ask us about this have been burned once by a freelancer who went quiet. So when someone asks to hire a WordPress developer or a Shopify developer from us, what they usually mean is: someone good, someone who answers, and someone checking their work.
Who should hire a WordPress developer or Shopify developer from us?
Mostly three kinds of client. Agencies with overflow come first: you've sold the work, your developers are full, and you need reliable hands for a few weeks or every month. (Need it under your brand? See our white label services.) Then store owners who want to hire a Shopify developer for a list of changes that keeps getting longer. And small businesses with a WordPress site that needs regular care: landing pages, speed fixes, updates, the odd form that stops sending email.
Who isn't it for? If you need a developer in your office or a full-time employee on your payroll, we're not that. We're a team you hire, not staff you employ.
What do our WordPress developers do?
Custom themes, first. We build light themes on the WordPress block editor (with ACF where a fixed layout suits better), so your team can add pages without breaking anything. If your site already runs on Elementor and works, we'll look after it as it is.
Then WooCommerce, including the awkward bits like dealer price lists, minimum order quantities and "request a quote" in place of checkout. Speed work too: we find what's actually slow (usually plugins, a heavy builder, giant images or cheap hosting) and aim for Google's Core Web Vitals marks of LCP under 2.5 seconds, INP under 200 ms and CLS under 0.1.
Hacked site? Malware clean-up normally takes two to four working days: injected code and backdoors out, clean core files back, the hole closed and spam pages removed from Google. And maintenance, with updates tried on staging first, off-site backups and small edits. More on our WordPress development page.
What do our Shopify developers do?
Theme customisation in Liquid is the bulk of it: new sections and blocks your team can edit in the theme editor, changes to product and collection templates, metafields for things like size guides, and fixing the bits a bought theme almost does. We work on a duplicate of your live theme, so customers never see half-finished changes.
App setup comes next, and we're stingy about it. We'd rather write a few lines of Liquid than add another monthly app, because fifteen paid apps can cost more than Shopify itself. Migrations from WooCommerce, Magento or Wix come up a lot too. Products, customers and orders move across and every old URL gets a 301 redirect. (Customer passwords can't be moved, so customers get an invite to reactivate their accounts.)
Speed rounds it out, which on Shopify usually means trimming app scripts and sizing images properly. Overseas stores also get Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal, Afterpay or Klarna set up. See our e-commerce development page.
How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer in India?
With us, you pay either a fixed project price or a monthly block of developer time quoted to your scope. We don't publish an hourly rate. For context, our article on what it costs to outsource web development to India puts experienced developers at Indian agencies at roughly USD 25 to 50 an hour, based on what clients forward us and on published 2026 guides.
For defined builds, our USD packages are fixed. Websites: Starter $2,500 (up to 6 pages, 3 to 4 weeks), Professional $5,500 (up to 15 pages) and Authority $9,500 (up to 30 pages). Stores: Launch $3,500 and Growth $7,500. Hosting, theme licences and apps are separate running costs, listed in the quote. Everything's on our pricing page.
Fixed price or monthly developer time: which should you choose?
Choose fixed price when you can write the job down. A new site, a store build, a migration, a speed project: if the scope is clear, a fixed price protects you, because a slow developer at a low hourly rate can cost more than a quick one at a higher rate. We write the scope down, agree milestones and take payment in stages, typically a deposit, a payment on design approval and the rest at go-live.
Monthly developer time is for when the work keeps coming but you can't list it in advance. Tell us what a normal month looks like (how many changes, which sites, how urgent) and we'll quote a block of time to match. You get the same developer each month, and a lead here checks the work before it goes live. Some people call this a dedicated developer in India. It's closer to your own developer with a senior person looking over their shoulder, which is the part most freelancer setups lack.
Not sure? Start with a fixed project and move to a monthly block if the changes keep coming.
How do you vet an Indian development team before hiring?
Look at live work, set a small paid test, and get ownership and access in writing before anything big starts.
Start with our portfolio. It shows live sites for real clients, so open them on your phone and run them through PageSpeed Insights yourself. Then give us a small paid test task: fixing a broken template, speeding up one slow page, or building one new section in your theme. You'll see how we ask questions and what the code looks like. A team that won't take a paid test is telling you something.
Get code ownership in writing too. With us, the code, theme and content are yours once paid for, and your domain, hosting and Shopify account stay in your name throughout. If you use GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, we work in your repository, so every change is a commit you can read.
Working hours, overlap and communication
We're in Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 7 PM IST. When our day starts it's mid-afternoon in Sydney, and our afternoon lines up with the UK morning. Dubai gets almost a full shared working day. US clients get early-morning or late-evening calls on our side, so nobody has to be on Zoom at midnight.
You'll deal with one person here, not a rotating cast. Slack, email or WhatsApp, we're not fussy. Every week you get a short written update, and visual changes come with a staging link or a quick screen recording. My one firm suggestion? Fix a regular call time in week one, or you'll swap messages for days over something a ten-minute call would sort.
How do you keep my site and accounts secure?
We use access you create and control, and we test on staging before anything touches your live site. On WordPress that's a separate admin user for us plus hosting or SFTP access in your account; on Shopify, a staff or collaborator account. You can remove any of it in a minute.
Please don't send passwords over WhatsApp. A password manager share is far safer. Changes get built on staging or a duplicate theme, a backup is taken before anything goes live, and launches happen on a weekday morning. Never a Friday evening.
Freelancer marketplace vs agency team vs in-house hire
A marketplace freelancer is cheapest per hour and fine for small, clearly defined jobs. An in-house hire makes sense once you have full-time work every week. An agency team sits in between, and it's the safer pick when you need reliable cover and someone checking the work.
| Freelancer marketplace | Agency team (like us) | In-house hire | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How you pay | Hourly or per job, plus platform fees | Fixed project price or a monthly block of time | Monthly salary, plus benefits, equipment and hiring costs |
| Who checks the work | You do | A lead here, then you | You, or your tech lead |
| Cover for leave or illness | None, work stops | Another developer picks it up | Work waits |
| Skills available | One person's | WordPress, Shopify, design, SEO and ads people in one team | One person's, unless you hire more |
| Time to start | Fast, once you find the right person | Usually within days of a signed scope | Weeks or months of hiring |
| If it goes wrong | Disputes through the platform | One contact, a written scope and staged payments | Notice periods and rehiring |
| Good fit for | Small one-off fixes | Ongoing work, or builds that need several skills | Full-time work every single week |
How hiring a developer with us works
- Intro call. We spend 30 to 45 minutes on what you need built or fixed, your current setup and how you like to work. You'll know by the end whether a fixed project or monthly time makes more sense.
- Written scope and quote. You get an itemised quote with the work, the price and the dates. For monthly time, it lists what a normal month covers.
- Paid test task. This one's optional, but I'd recommend it if you've never outsourced before. It's small and real, and it tells you more than any sales call.
- Access setup. You create our logins, a staging site or duplicate theme, and repository access if you use Git. We don't ask for your own passwords.
- Build and review. Work happens on staging, and you get a weekly written update plus links or recordings to check. Changes go back and forth until you're happy.
- Go live. We back up, deploy on a weekday morning and check forms, checkout and tracking straight after.
- Ongoing or handover. Either we carry on with monthly time, or we hand over everything and remove our access.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer in India?+
It depends on the job, so we quote fixed prices or monthly blocks rather than an hourly rate. Our websites start at $2,500 and stores at $3,500. Across the market, experienced developers at Indian agencies charge roughly USD 25 to 50 an hour, which is what our outsourcing cost article covers in more detail.
Can I hire a Shopify developer in India for small changes?+
You can, and small changes are a big part of what we do. Bundle them into a short list and we'll quote it as one job, or move to a monthly block if they keep coming. Every change gets built on a duplicate theme first, so your live store never shows half-finished work.
Do I get a dedicated developer?+
In practice, yes. On a monthly block you get the same developer each month, so they learn your site and your preferences. Unlike a lone freelancer, they've got a lead here checking their work and a team to cover leave. You'll also have one contact for everything, so nobody gets lost in a handover.
Can I test your developers before committing?+
Please do. We'd suggest a small paid test task: a broken template, one slow page, or a new section in your theme. It's real work, priced properly, and it shows you how we communicate and what our code looks like. My view is that any team refusing a paid test is a team to skip.
Who owns the code?+
You do. Once it's paid for, the code, the theme and the content are yours, and your domain, hosting and Shopify account stay in your name from day one. If you use Git, we commit to your repository, so you can see every change as it happens. If we part ways, nothing stays with us.
What hours do your developers work?+
Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 7 PM IST. That covers the Australian afternoon and the UK morning, and most of the working day in the UAE. For US clients we book early or late calls. Most clients fix one regular call a week and handle the rest through Slack, email or WhatsApp.
Can you work with my existing site, or do you only build new ones?+
We work on existing sites all the time: WordPress sites built by someone else (Elementor included), Shopify stores on bought themes, WooCommerce shops that have grown messy. We look at what's there first and tell you honestly what's worth keeping.
Is it safe to give an offshore developer access to my site?+
It is if access is set up properly. Create separate logins for us rather than sharing yours, use a password manager instead of messages, and make sure changes go through staging first. We work that way by default, and you can remove our access at any time.
